Canton Parks and Recreation is making several improvements to Stadium Park beginning this spring.
Replacement of the current shuffleboard courts with a pickle ball facility, a restroom replacement, and the restoration of the William Johnson Tennis Court surfaces are currently underway. Funding for this joint project has been made possible through the Canton Park Levy, Canton Joint Recreation District Levy and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources – Recreational Trails Grant.
Stadium Park Pond, situated between Monument Road and Stadium Park Drive, is currently in the midst of a dredging project. The pond which had regularly been utilized for annual fishing derbies had become unusable for recreational activities due to a significant build-up of silt. The restoration project has completed the replacement of the aging inflow and outflow devices which should control the build-up of future siltation.
In addition to these projects, the John Barker Spring House located on Monument Road in Stadium Park will receive a fully redeveloped shelter structure, along with the replacement of structural supports and plumbing features.
Funding for both the pond dredging and the John Barker Spring house project are made possible by the Canton Park Levy along with generous contributions from American Electric Power and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
