Canton Parks and Recreation Extending Rental Suspensions and Program Cancellations
April 6, 2020 – (CANTON, Ohio) – In accordance with the extension of the statewide stay-at-home order issued by Governor Mike DeWine, Canton Parks and Recreation will be extending rental suspensions and playground closures, and cancelling programs until Friday, May 1st.
All programs scheduled to start in April have been cancelled. Registrants will be contacted and issued a refund. This includes youth and adult programs. We ask for patience as we work to process all registrant refunds. Programs with a start date beyond May 1st will be evaluated as more information is received.
All shelter and facility rentals including Garaux Shelter, Canton Garden Center, Edward “Peel” Coleman Community Center, and all park shelters scheduled through Friday, May 1st are suspended. All renters will be contacted and will have the option to transfer their rental to a later available date or receive a full refund.
Parks remain open to walk, run, or bike. West Park Skate Park (DIY Skate Park) located at 9th Street SW & Schroyer Avenue SW is closed effective immediately by order of Canton Park Police. Violators could face fines for trespassing. Pickleball and tennis courts are available for singles play only. Please do not congregate on courts for any reason. Pets are not permitted on any courts. All playgrounds, play structures, and public workout equipment will remain closed through the duration of the stay-at-home order pending further guidance.

Our main office located at 1414 Market Avenue N, 44714 will continue to remain closed to the public until Friday, May 1st . There will be limited staff available to answer phones and emails. The main office phone number is 330.456.4521. The email address is cantonparks@cantonohio.gov. The Edward “Peel” Coleman Community Center located at 1400 Sherrick Road SE, 44707 will also remain closed.
All programs scheduled for the Canton Garden Center located at 1615 Stadium Park Drive, 44718 are suspended until May 1st. This includes all public programs as well as those hosted by the Canton Garden Club.
We fully understand the inconvenience these changes may cause. We’ll continue to evaluate facility usage and programs as we receive more information from community health officials. We ask that everyone do their part in keeping everyone safe while outdoors by practicing social distancing and staying at least 6 feet away from other people.
